an invited competition proposal for a woodland visitor centre.
the proposal seeks to integrate both the prescribed building and the consequential parking into the landscape context. both parking and buildings are arranged into similar forms arranged either side of the primary access road. by mirroring the stepped plan form, the minimum number of existing trees are removed, the parking and building maximise the planted frontage along the street. the parking enclosure and the visitor centre are formed by a series of storey deep concrete beams and timber trusses. these two elements create both indoor and outdoor spaces, all covered by a faceted lightweight roof. a framed view of the landscape connects to an outdoor route leading through the woodland to a number of landscape follies |
