THE BOX SET PROJECTS
3 YEAR RESEARCH PROJECT for Rice School of Architecture in Paris (RSAP) the BOX SET projects form a series of thematically linked design investigations into the VOID in urbanism, landscape and architecture BOX SET 1 : Spring 2018 Programmatic Void BOX SET 2 : Spring 2019 Tectonic Void BOX SET 3 : Spring 2020 Manifest Void the connotation of the word ‘void’ is to suggest loss, omission or an undesired absence. however, when associated to the realm of architecture it can regain the positive, rather than seeing the built void as a space that tears or disrupts the urban fabric this studio seeks to investigate voids that will order, define, shape and charge the boundaries between the public, private and tertiary thresholds. the studio will use analytical investigation to explore how urban voids can encourage urban cohesion and permeability in the city, specifically, it will examine how voids can contribute to the built fabric and provide quality urban space for the city inhabitant and how these voids can influence the program of the surrounding architecture. |
the BOX SET projects are a joint research and design initiative carried out by a collaboration between:
XDGR (Doug Allard .UK, Federico Pedrini .IT, Lieven De Boeck .B) XDGA (Xaveer De Geyter Architects, Brussels) RSA (Rice School of Architecture, Houston) |
